The Coastal Inundation Forecasting Demonstration Project-Fiji (CIFDP-F) Final wrap up meeting was held from November 19-21 in Nadi Fiji

Coastal inundation is an increasing threat to the lives and livelihoods of people living in low-lying and highly populated coastal areas. The management of such risk represents a great challenge to scientists and policymakers in the areas of meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, emergency management and coastal planning.

The CIFDP provides an example of cooperative work for building improved operational forecasting and warning capability for coastal inundation, combining extreme wave, storm surges and river flooding events that can be sustained by the responsible national agencies.

The Fiji CIFDP was developed with the funding of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) and completed over three years (2016-2019).
KMA expect the CIFDP Fiji will greatly enhance Fiji’s forecasting and warning services for coastal areas, which are highly likely to be flooded by waves, storm surges and river inundation. And going further, hope this project will be greatly beneficial to Southwest Pacific countries.

The project was managed by WMO, and the final wrap up meeting was held from November 19-21 in Nadi Fiji.
The meeting discussed the key results of the CIFDP with demonstrated benefits to Fiji, including feedback from the users and lessons learned.
